KEVIN SMITH is the KING OF COOL, STREETS OF SAN FRANCISO to walk the beat again and DOOMSDAY is B-Movie fun!
It was really good to see KEVIN SMITH being such a force at the Comic-Con in San Diego last week. I really believe he’s one of the most interesting and knowledgeable people in the movie business. The guy not only has a feel for what fans like but can communicate his opinion as good as any speaker I’ve heard in a long time. While I don’t think his overall career has matched his unique talent, I really hope I see the day when he gets to helm a big budget project that the masses can embrace! He’s one voice that I truly enjoy. I also thought his extended cameo in last summers LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD was a blast! You can hear Kevin Smith’s comments about the future of Super Hero movies on our latest Entertainment Today and Beyond Radio show HERE.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, CBS television is going to shake the mothballs off its 1970’s cop show THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO. The trade reports that the network will develop a contemporary version of the program which starred Karl Malden and Michael Douglas. The 70’s was the golden era for cop shows with programs like Kojack, Baretta, Barnaby Jones and Starsky and Hutch dominating the
airwaves. CBS has already secured Simon West (Con Air) to helm the pilot. I know I’ll be there to WATCH as I loved the original series!
For fans of the B-movie I suggest you check out this weeks DVD release of DOOMSDAY. I got a chance to see it when it quickly came and went from theaters last March and really enjoyed it for what it was. Director Neil Marshall (The Descent) clearly loves the material as he mixes many different genres and pays particular homage to John Carpenter’s Escape from NY and George Miller’s Mad Max. As a bonus, the film’s star, Rhona Mitra isn’t too hard on the eyes either! Overall, this Sci-fi action thriller is FUN. I know I had a good time with it!
