MOVIE preview for AUGUST
Aug 1, MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR – It’s been seven years since the last Mummy movie. Isn’t every one EXCITED – I doubt it! Reviews stink but I still think it will open to a solid crowd.
SWING STATE – Trailer looks fun but will there be an audience for this comedy, marketed right at the sophisticated adult crowd! Kevin Costner stars.
Aug 6, PINEAPPLE EXPRESS – Advance Buzz is good on this stoner comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco. Judd (I can’t believe you’re not burned out yet) Apatow produces.
SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS 2 – Only title worse than the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2! NUFF said! Actually I’m sure there’s an audience for this, I’m just not part of it!
Aug 13, TROPIC THUNDER – Trailers edgy and cast is solid with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. (Playing a black guy…?). Got a feeling this will be Big!
Aug 15, THE CLONE WARS – Animated Star Wars – Am I EXCITED… Not this time around!
MIRRORS – If anyone wanted to know what Kiefer Sutherland was doing inbetween the last season of 24 and spending time in jail for a DUI, this horror movie is it. See ya on DVD in a few months!
Aug 20, ROCKER – Rain Wilson (of Office fame) stars in this comedy about a drummer who gets a second shot at fame. Rain is funny but will people pay to see him?
Aug 22, DEATH RACE – I love the B-movie genre and this one fits that bill. Jason Statham, hot off the nifty heist thriller The Bank Job, is building a nice screen career and might be the only bona-fide non-superstar action hero in movies today.
THE LONG SHOTS – Ice Cube stars in this true story about a poor Illinois town that comes together behind their Pop Warner football team. Hey, stop one second – ISN”T this idea pitched every other week in Hollywood! Ok – the formula almost always works.
Aug 29, BABYLON A.D. – Vin Diesel returns from a state of movie hibernation to star in this film described as a post apocalyptic action thriller. Hey-better Diesel than Wesley Snipes!
CROSSING OVER – Harrison Ford stars as an immigration officer in Los Angeles. Yes- there’s still time for one good Harrison Ford movie this summer. God knows it wasn’t The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull!
DISASTER MOVIE – Another spoof film from the creators of Epic movie and Meet the Spartans. If it’s half as good as those two my advice would be – Stay away, Stay far- far away!
