According to deadline Hollywood Daily, DreamWorks/Paramount’s very well reviewed and highly hyped new comedy TROPIC THUNDER opened to an estimated 7 million in its first day of release Wednesday. While certainly not bad, one has to think it’s a bit soft, considering that last weeks PINEAPPLE EXPRESS did 12.1 mill when it also opened on a Wednesday. PINEAPPLE EXPRESS wound up with a 5 day total of 41 million. That’s pretty impressive considering its budget was just 27 mill. TROPIC THUNDER, on the other hand, cost a reported 100 mill plus to produce. I still believe it will find a bigger audience over the weekend.
