Can TARZAN make a comeback, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL is family friendly – ZACK AND MIRI is not, and it’s been a pleasure EBERT AND ROEPER!

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Van Helsing director Stephan Sommers is in talks with Warner Bros to helm a new version of TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES. While some ideas are worth repeating, this is not one of them. It’s highly unlikely today’s movie going audience will embrace the character of Tarzan in any big way. The last live action Tarzan film was Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes back in 1984 starring Christopher Lambert.

Here’s something you don’t see too often – The MPAA has given Disney’s HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3 a G-rating. The family friendly musical hits theaters October 24.

On the flip side of a G-rated movie, it appears to me that Kevin Smith and the Weinstein company are pushing the envelope so far with their new comedy ZACK and MIRI MAKE A PORNO that there will be no mainstream audience for it. The film, starring Seth Rogen and Elisabeth Banks, is rated R but its current uncensored trailer, which can be seen online, is raunchy to the extreme. While I’m not against this type of humor, it doesn’t make sense from a financial point of view since studios make movies to make MONEY! Why sabotage that opportunity simply to push the boundaries to a crazy level and alienate a majority of its potential audience! Let’s see what happens when this hits theaters Oct 31.

I don’t know if anyone else has noticed, but the last two Ebert and Roeper AT THE MOVIES shows were repeats, so Richard Roeper didn’t get to say good-bye for Roger Ebert and himself to all the program’s loyal fans. Disney will introduce the long running programs new format with new hosts, Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz, this weekend. Unfortunately for fans of Ebert and Roeper the balcony is now closed for GOOD!
