Never Met a Zombi I Didn’t Like…

Dr. Greene to return to ER, Jack Bauer’s daughter Kim back on 24, Kerry Washington shows some real OPINION, and JJ Abrams FRINGE premieres this Tuesday!

Anthony Edwards

Anthony Edwards

Here’s a really interesting TV news story – Actor ANTHONY EDWARDS who starred on NBC’S hit medical drama ER but left the show after his character Dr. Mark Greene was killed off six years ago, has agreed to return to the show in a flashback episode scheduled to air November 13 for the programs 15th and final season. I really liked Edwards on that show and consider the episode ORION IN THE SKY, which detailed Dr. Green’s last day in the ER as one of the very best pieces of television I’ve ever seen! Hopefully George Clooney will do the show that made him a star and make an appearance as Dr. Doug Ross in the final episode. ER kicks off its season September 25.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, actress Elisha Cuthbert has signed on to reprise her role of Kim, the daughter of Jack Bauer, for a season-ending story arc on Fox’s 24. This time she will have Jack’s grandkid tagging along with her.

Actress Kerry Washington (Ray, Lakeview Terrace) was great as one of the three panelists on Bill Maher’s REAL TIME discussion show on HBO Friday night. She was smart, aggressive, wildly opinionated and added a ton of energy to the program. I really enjoyed watching her hold her own against two Republicans who were also on the panel. For me Real Time is a MUST SEE!

I’m really looking forward to watching the premiere of the JJ Abrams produced FRINGE this Tuesday night on Fox. The program, described as a relationship drama with a bunch of crazy twists and turns, got a rave review from TV Guide. It stars Joshua Jackson, who played the character of Pacey on the teen hit DAWSON’S CREEK. I was fan of that show as I am of Jackson as an actor. With all the new upcoming shows I’m already prepared for DVR overload.

Both RAIMI and MAGUIRE reportedly ready to roll on SPIDERMAN 4, and Great Buzz on THE WRESTLER!

I have to admit I was really happy to read Nikki Finke’s exclusive that both director Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire will be back for SPIDERMAN 4, and actually might shoot a part 5 back to back. While I know many comic book fans were really down on the last Spiderman outing, I don’t share their opinion as I found the film entertaining despite some of its flaws. Yes, there were too many characters but I actually liked the musical number and found it highly enjoyable! While it wasn’t quite as good as parts One and Two, it was still a solid comic book film. For me the movie works. More than a few people agree as Spiderman 3 was the highest grossing film of 2007, a fact many seem to forget!

I will say one other thing – a fan brought up the name Adam Brody as a good choice to replace Maguire as Spiderman. If Tobey took a pass, I think Brody, who was the star of Fox’s The OC and the movie IN THE LAND OF WOMEN, would have been a great choice – he could have pulled it off very well. I certainly would have endorsed that choice but am happy with Tobey’s return. Sony hopes to have Spiderman 4 in theaters for May 2011.

Actor Mickey Rourke is getting rave reviews at the Venice film festival for his performance as a washed up wrestler searching for redemption in director Darren Aronofsky’s, THE WRESTLER. Many feel both Rourke and the movie itself could be a top contender at this year’s Oscars. I say, good for Rourke, a talented guy whose career literally spiraled downward along with his personal life two decades ago. Sometimes life has a happy ending, so hopefully this will be Mickey’s time in the sun!
