Interesting LAWSUIT to think about, My Take on FRINGE, and Fox thinking about another DAREDEVIL!
I don’t know what to think of the copyright infringement lawsuit filed on Tuesday by an estate that holds the rights to the ALFRED HITHCOCK film, REAR WINDOW, against the producers of last years hit film DISTURBIA. They claim the Steven Spielberg produced movie ripped off their idea. While the concept was basically the same, it’s far from a scene for scene copy as even the filmmakers in the Disturbia DVD clearly say it was a homage to the Hitchcock classic. Based on the logic of the Plaintiff in this case, you would think the Producers of DIE HARD could file suit against the makers of UNDERSIEGE 1&2, SUDDEN DEATH, PASSENGER 57 and many other terrorist takeover movies that were spawned off the success of the Bruce Willis hit! Heck, even the Producers of GREMLINS could sue the makers of CRITTERS. While we’re at it, how about the producers of GILLIGANS ISLAND suing JJ ABRAMS for doing LOST! You get my point…. It seems ridiculous! Last, but not least, they should also sue Brian De Palma who did BODY DOUBLE in 1984 since that film also owes a great deal to Rear Window! This is
just silly.
I thought last night’s premiere of Fox’s highly hyped, JJ Abrams produced show, FRINGE, was a
really interesting piece of television. It played like a cross between many different things including X-files, Moonlighting, Altered States and House. I don’t know if it will turn into a main stream hit but I enjoyed it. I like Anna Torv and Joshua Jackson as the shows leads and I look forward to watching future episodes. I give this pilot episode 7.5 out of 10.
According to Variety, Fox is considering rebooting it’s DAREDEVIL property. While I might be in the minority, I really liked Daredevil with Ben Affleck and thought it worked really well as an origin story. Personally, I never seen a studio botch up a property so badly (Okay, I did… it was called Batman and Robin) with the spin-off film, ELECKTRA, as that script was just awful! While it’s unlikely Ben Affleck will return, I think there’s enough good material to regain trust with comic book superhero fans!
QUANTUM OF SOLACE Trailer
Sony has released the new trailer to its latest 007 film, Quantum of Solace! As you can tell when you watch it, this direct sequel to Daniel Craig’s first James Bond film, Casino Royale, has absolutely no sign of humor! Craig once again is all business. While this approach has picked up a new generation of fans, some moviegoers still like the tension breaking one liner’s of Roger Moore and Pierce Bronson. For the record, I like Craig filling out the tuxedo, but a little humor couldn’t hurt! Look for Bond to hit theaters Nov 14, 2008. View Trailer
Highly ENTERTAINING start for Fox’s TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNER CHRONICLES!
After watching the season 2 premiere of Fox’s TERMINATOR: The SARAH CONNER CHRONICLES last night, I really believe this is one of the most entertaining rides on television that demands a much bigger audience than the average eight million viewers it had last season. When Fox announced a little over two years ago that they would be producing a TV series that would take place between Terminator 2 and 3, I never thought that it would be anything more than a ho-hum throw away show and grade C entertainment at best. Boy, was I wrong. The Sarah Conner Chronicles has far exceeded my expectations. It’s very well produced with a nice sized budget than supplies the show with top notch special effects. The cast, lead by Lena Headey as Sarah Conner is very appealing and, for me, its now must see TV! I believe co-star Summer Glau who plays the sometimes good, sometimes bad, Terminator is truly a break out star! Monday’s episode was not only exciting and well executed but had a few thought provoking moments that dealt with the subject of religion. Overall, a great opener for a new season premiere.
