RATINGS NEWS for new and Returning Shows!
After watching episode 2 of 90210 I’m pretty convinced that the CW network has a viable show here creatively, as it should get even better once it settles into developing all the new characters. While I still believe some of the younger cast is slightly dull, the veteran actors, like Rob Estes and Jennie Garth, are solid and the vibe of the show Tuesday night started to feel a lot more like the 90’s original. While nothing is confirmed, I have a gut feeling we’ll see Luke Perry pop up sometime down the road since they have already brought up the fact that Garth’s character, Kelly’s, four year old kid is the
son of a guy she was very close too in high school. My guess is Dylan, not Brandon. While ratings dropped off 33% from its premiere episode, I think the show’s viewership will base here at the 3.5 million mark! On any other network BAD, on the CW very OK! Following 90210, The CW’s newest show, PRIVILEGED, attracted 2.9 million viewers in its first outing. The struggling network’s long running mainstay, SMALLVILLE, returns next Thursday!
In other ratings news, Fox’s highly hyped, FRINGE, pulled 9 million viewers for its premiere Tuesday night. That has to be considered somewhat disappointing to the network as they were hoping the JJ Abrams (Lost) name would pull in a much bigger audience. As I wrote yesterday, I really liked the show. It should get a solid chance to build an audience going forward with its 9pm Tuesday timeslot, following Fox’s powerhouse program
HOUSE returning next week at 8pm. Fox will re-air FRINGE this Sunday night, fishing for more viewers who missed it the first time around. That’s a great idea!
HBO’s ENTOURAGE pulled in 1.6 million viewers for its first new episode Sunday night and the new Vampire show TRUE BLOOD attracted 1.5 million viewers. Okay for ‘pay cable’ standards but far from the 7-10 million viewers THE SOPRONOS used to pull in! I still can’t believe that show is no more!
