THE HAPPENING arrives on DVD, BAD form on Direct TV’s part, SNL ratings and Buzz is good for AUSTRALIA!
Warner Bros releases M. Night Shyamalan’s ridiculous end of the world thriller, THE HAPPENING, on Tuesday Oct 7. For me it’s the year’s worst film so far, and a stupefying disappointment from the writer-director who has taken one of the biggest creative falls in the history of movies. It’s really hard to believe
this is the same guy who did UNBREAKABLE.
DIRECT TV’s new commercial, in which they use a scene from POLTERGEIST featuring the late HEATHER O’ROURKE, is in stunningly bad taste. I must admit the first time I saw it, I literally did a double-take because I could not believe what I was watching. What in the world are they thinking! She passed away tragically at the tender age of
twelve. That AD should be PULLED!
Ratings for Saturday Night Live are up 49% year to year, thanks largely in part to their terrific ‘Tina Fey as Sarah Palin’ skits. I just wish the whole 90-minute show was as funny!
Buzz is solid on BAZ LUHRMANN’S (Moulin Rogue) new film, AUSTRALIA, described as an epic love story set against the backdrop of war. The film, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, opens Nov 26, 2008. Here’s a LOOK at the TRAILER

I’m a huge Shyamalan fan but DAMN he’s due for a good film, isn’t he? I loved The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable & Signs but The Village & Lady in the Water were disappointing. DId he peek too soon as a film maker? Is he trying too hard?
He signed a deal to produce a handful of films, but not write or direct them. I actually think that’s a good idea as he needs to take a step back and try and get his MOJO back! He also mentioned on a conference call the other day, while promoting The Happening DVD release, that he’s thinking about writng a sequel to Unbreakable. It just seems so long after the fact but we’ll see what happens!
