MADAGASCAR ROARS AT BOXOFFICE with whopping $63.5 million opening
It was a family friendly weekend at the movies as DreamWorks animated sequel, MADAGASCAR: Escape from Africa, was the dominant attraction, grossing a very impressive $63.5 million over the weekend. With reviews superior to the original, this new Madagascar film has a solid shot to
eventually gross over $200 mill at the U.S box-office. These animated films continue to be one of Hollywood’s biggest cash cows with most being a license to print money!
Premiering in second place was Universal’s comedy, ROLE MODELS. The film, starring Paul Rudd and Sean William Scott, opened to good reviews and pulled in a better than expected $19.2 million. While many in the general public may not know his name, they sure
know Rudd’s face on screen. He has become one of Hollywood’s most likeable actors working in movies today. The weekend’s other new wide release, SOUL MEN, opened to a
relatively weak $5.6 mill in business. The film stars Samuel L. Jackson and the late BERNIE MAC who passed away this summer.
One other bit of Box-office news: the new James Bond film, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, continues to be an overseas juggernaut, having now grossed $160 million in 60 territories. Expect a big opening here in the States when it hits theaters on Friday. Here’s a link to the weekends Top Ten
