Early horror movie favorite-George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead
With Halloween approaching I was thinking about a few of my first movie scares. One of the first I can remember was a Television experience. My two brothers and me stayed up late sometime during the 1970’s and watched the ABC Friday Night movie on ABC channel 7 out of New York when I was a kid in Brooklyn NY. The film was George Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead. Seeing this for the first time truly gave me the creeps and I remember being riveted throughout.
The one thing I’ll always remember is that when it ended at about 1:30 AM in the morning there was a knock on our apartment door. It turned out to be a man who had the wrong address. Talk about bad timing. I was creeped out for hours. Who knocks on someone’s door at that time of night? That in itself was as scary as the movie and something I’ll sure never forget!
