Glad you had a better experience than I did, Chuck. I saw the film in the best seat of a top-of-the line 3D theater, and liked the LOOK of the film, but got irritated at the trite dialogue and predictable plot. And even though Pandora was all woo-woo indigloish, the Na'vi didn't look "real" to me. They were just very detailed 3D cartoons. Their movements, footsteps, limb impacts all SOUNDED right, but didn't LOOK as if their bodies had weight. This was disconcerting in scenes like Blue Jake's first run outdoors. The toes curl into dirt as if the Na'vi have no bones at all, even though previous scenes supplied the info about "carbon-fiber bones, hard to kill" etc. Same unconvincing finger movements too, and the eye expressions were also too smooth-moving to look real. I know it's supposed to be low gravity, but that should have been countered by the size and weight of the 9'tall Na'vi.
With the addition of fake-tribal music and gaps in taste like having the natives all do "jazz hands" in the final scene, I was glad I had seen it but wouldn't consider going again. (BTW, why does a Robot Suit need a robot KNIFE?)

No matter how you slice it, this is a difficult film to sell. I have seen it, and I enjoyed it, but I think in large part due to the fact that I had read the book. I wonder if audiences who are fresh to the material will have a similar reaction.

Rake

The Exorcist is great story telling and should be seen by every movie fan. It's classic status is well deserved.

Thats a great video and a good call on your part. I admittedly have never seen The Exorcist, scary movies just have a way with me to where I know better than to watch them (usually). Same will go for Paranormal Activity. I did see Blair Witch but didnt think much of it to be honest.

I can agree on going with a regular non-action hero actor but not Brody. Still fighting a predator I like the idea of Dwayne Johnson. It just seems more beliveable that he would have a fighting chance.

It's not a surprise that this would be an average effort considering Barrymore's background in largely commercial fare. At the same time, perhaps she will come to take more risks as an auteur as things come down the line.
