The Jaws figures are stunning. I actually have never seen Titanic to this day, and I may never. At this point it is almost a badge of anti-honor or something of the sort. Reading this article makes me think of some of my youthful experiences, seeing Top Gun, or waiting in line for the original Batman. Time flies, yes indeed.

Funny thing about Grease is that my 10 & 6 year old daughters LOVE this movie. It's one of those that'll be around forever. Nowadays they tend to rush movies through the box office in time for DVD sales. It's all about money I guess?

Great article! I know what you mean about GREASE feeling like it was in the theaters forever. God, I must have seen that movie 100 times. My poor parents, they were not only subjected to the movie but to my sister and I acting it out when we got home.

Yes it was quite Awesome & you forgot to mention how we loved it so much. We immediately bought tickets for the mindnight showing that same night...Just to get the rush from a new crowd!

I totally agree that the moviegoing experience has degraded into being nothing memorable. There was a time when you remembered the theatre you saw the movie in as much as the movie itself. Then JAWS came along and opened everywhere within a few weeks, and the Blockbuster trend began.

Cinema owners were complaining that studios were forcing blind-bidding (commiting to show a movie without having seen it) and package deals (Having to buy a number of the studio's less desirable movies to get their big movies). They began to look for ways to save money by stripping away everything that made the moviegoing experience memorable. http://cinemasightlines.com/cinemas_moviegoing.php

Now the kind of theatrical atmosphere we miss is turning up in the homes of people with the means to build their own Private Theatres. http://cinemasightlines.com/privatetheatre_showcase.php The current state of moviegoing is so lackluster and expensive that people go out to see movies less as a result. I often have to make a choice of which movies are worth going out to see and which I'll wait to rent or catch on cable. http://cinemasightlines.com/csmb/viewforum.php?f=11 Some theatres still try to provide that special experience, http://cinemasightlines.com/cinemas_cinemaviews8.php but most exhibitors simply haven't a clue. This is a subject we focus on and are always happy to discuss. I'd like to read more about your favorite moviegoing memories. http://cinemasightlines.com/csmb/viewforum.php?f=36 It's really nice to see fellow moviegoers on other sites acknowledge our favorite issue.
