SWAYZE interview gets Ratings and NOLAN gets Directors Guild nomination
The Patrick Swayze full hour interview with Barbara Walters on Wednesday night was television’s highest rated program of the night, attracting close to 13 million viewers. Even though it bothers me that the network sold commercial airtime off his misery, the interview was a moving piece of television. Bottom line – the guy’s got GUTS. It’s amazing that he was able to film the 13 episodes of his new A& E series THE BEAST while going through the agony of chemotherapy, battling incurable pancreatic cancer. It’s also hard to believe that Patrick’s plight is only 22 years removed from the year Dirty Dancing was released. Amazing what time can do to any of us! The Beast starts airing next week.
Directors Guild of America Nominations
David Fincher- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Christopher Nolan- The Dark Knight
Ron Howard- Frost/Nixon
Gus Van Sant- Milk
Danny Boyle- Slumdog Millionaire
With the inclusion of Nolan here, it now appears The Dark Knight will get serious play come Oscar night. The film has already received both producer and writer Guild nominations – and now this. Nolan really deserves the recognition as much of his directing in The Dark Knight is tremendously skilled and, in many instances, quite amazing.
