FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Close to renewal?
According to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello, NBC and Direct TV are negotiating a new deal to bring back Friday Night Lights for at least one more season and possibly two. Despite low ratings (3.8 million viewers on NBC last Friday) the show has a loyal and vocal fanbase (myself included). Even though it’s been a critical darling its audience remains small, and if it wasn’t for Direct TV picking up half the production cost, and getting to air it months before the Peacock network, the show would have been canceled after last season. Personally I can’t say enough about the program. As I have stated many times, I think its one of the very best things on television today. It’s human drama at its best. The writing is top notch as well as the acting, and I really think the star of the show, Kyle Chandler, has been nothing short of outstanding as Coach Taylor. This was the role Billy Bob Thornton played in the theatrical film. In my opinion Friday Night Lights is MUST see television and I’m excited about the prospect that it will continue. I also appreciate the support the program has received from NBC despite overall low viewership. Someone at the top must be a fan!
