Never Met a Zombi I Didn’t Like…

STALLONE NOW and THEN

I couldn’t help get a smile on my face after watching the promo trailer to Sylvester Stallone’s latest actioner, The Expendables. Actually I had to run it three times before I could draw a definitive opinion because it certainly isn’t a product of the way movies are made in 2010. It actually feels very early 80’s and, after some reflecting, I think that might be a really good thing.

Who knows where Stallone would be in terms of his career if Rocky Balboa hadn’t delivered big time. I’m sure glad it did, giving him some clout to do things his way with Rambo and now this. Upon reflection of Stallone, who I’ve always been a big fan of, one movie that I truly enjoyed was his 1996 movie, Daylight. Aside from his Rocky character I don’t think Sly has ever been more likable on screen. Directed by Rob Cohen (Fast and the Furious), the film is basically a loose variation of The Poseidon Adventure with Sly in the Gene Hackman role and is solid entertainment. If you’re a Stallone fan it’s a must see. It hooks me every time I stumble upon it on television.

As for most Stallone films that decade it didn’t perform well in the U.S but did solid business overseas. Here’s the TRAILER.
